Nature\u2019s abundance is gradually calming down, and it\u2019s time for us, too, to turn inward: toward nourishment, digestion, and grounding.<\/p><h4>\u00a0<\/h4><h4><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>The Message of the Earth Element<\/strong><\/span><\/h4><p>The Earth element represents center and stability.<\/p><p>If you take a moment to pause in nature (away from the constant noise of the city), you might feel as if time itself slows down for a while.<\/p><p><em>I have to admit \u2013 ever since I no longer had to return to school benches every September, this season has become one of my favorites.<\/em><\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">Earth is also the element of nourishment.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">It\u2019s no coincidence that cultures across the world honored Earth as Mother: in Late Summer she offers her greatest abundance. Visiting a farmer\u2019s market, slowly choosing colorful vegetables and fruits, is in itself a grounding ritual.<\/p><h4>\u00a0<\/h4><h4><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Earth and Qi<\/strong><\/span><\/h4><p>In TCM, Earth holds special importance because it generates our postnatal Qi \u2013 the vital energy we rely on after birth.<\/p><ul><li class=\"translation-block\">When our \u201ccenter\u201d \u2013 the digestive system \u2013 is strong, every other organ is supported.<\/li><li>When it is weak, the whole body eventually becomes depleted.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\ud83d\udca1 Associations of the Earth element:<\/p><ul><li class=\"translation-block\">Organs: Stomach and Spleen \u2013 the foundation of digestion and energy production<\/li><li class=\"translation-block\">Emotion: worry and overthinking \u2013 when imbalanced, we ruminate and find it hard to let go<\/li><li class=\"translation-block\">Task: to \u201cdigest and integrate\u201d what we receive \u2013 food, experiences, emotions<\/li><\/ul><h4>\u00a0<\/h4><h4><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>What happens when the Earth element goes out of balance?<\/strong><\/span><\/h4><p>If the center is not strong, we can easily lose our stability.<\/p><p>The transition from summer to autumn can bring fatigue, digestive issues, mucus buildup, or excessive worrying.<\/p><p><strong>That\u2019s why in late summer it is especially important to:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>to prioritize warm, cooked meals,<\/li><li>practicing grounding habits (going to the market, taking slow walks, keeping a regular daily rhythm),<\/li><li>and also mental digestion: we need to \u201cdigest\u201d not only food, but also our experiences and emotions.<\/li><\/ul><h4>\u00a0<\/h4><h4><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Late summer and digestion<\/strong><\/span><\/h4><p>The Stomach and the Spleen provide the fundamental energy of our body. If they are weak, everything else becomes more vulnerable.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Signs of an Imbalance<\/strong><\/span><\/p><ul><li>bloating, sluggish digestion, sugar cravings (especially for refined sweets)<\/li><li>fatigue, heaviness after meals<\/li><li>excess mucus or dampness<\/li><li>worry, overthinking, or restlessness<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">This is why warm, cooked meals, grounding routines, and emotional digestion (processing feelings, not just food) are so essential at this time of year.<\/p><h4>\u00a0<\/h4><h4><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Eating in Harmony with Late Summer<\/strong><\/span><\/h4><p>Earth\u2019s allies are the warm yellows and oranges, foods that grow close to or within the soil, and the natural, gentle sweetness of whole foods.<\/p><p>\u2705 <strong>Supportive foods:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>grains: millet, brown rice, oats, quinoa<\/li><li>root vegetables: carrots, beets, sweet potatoes, squash<\/li><li>fruits: grapes, apples, pears, peaches \u2013 ideally baked, stewed, or gently cooked<\/li><li>legumes: chickpeas, red lentils<\/li><li>spices: cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, clove, cumin, star anise<\/li><\/ul><p>\u274c <strong>Best to avoid:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>too many raw salads, yogurt, iced drinks<\/li><li>ice cream, cold or frozen foods<\/li><li>overly sweet desserts<\/li><li>heavy, greasy, or oily dishes<\/li><\/ul><h4>\u00a0<\/h4><h4><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Simple Recipe \u2013 Creamy Pumpkin &amp; Millet Porridge<\/span><\/strong><\/h4><p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>\u00bd cup millet<\/li><li>1 cup steamed pumpkin cubes<\/li><li>2 cups almond or oat milk<\/li><li>1 tsp cinnamon, pinch of cardamom<\/li><li>1 tsp honey or date paste<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Directions:<\/strong><\/p><p>Simmer millet in plant milk until tender.
